Our client, a premier cancer diagnostics and pharma services company serving oncologists, pathologists, pharmaceutical companies, academic centres and others with innovative diagnostic, prognostic and predicting testing, is seeking to fill the following open position.

The Role

Under general supervision of the Manager of Pharma Services, the Histotechnologist III will precisely and accurately perform a variety of routine and specialized histology techniques and procedures. The Histotechnologist III will research, troubleshoot, and resolve histology related inquiries and problems within the laboratory. This position requires the production of the highest quality of embedding, microtomy, tissue grossing, tissue processing, H&E staining, special staining and IHC staining.

This is a senior level role in the Histotechnologist job category. Employees in this position perform a full range of technical procedures in the preparation of tissue specimens for Histology, IHC and MultiOmyx.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receives specimens of tissue and ensures proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples

  • Processes paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting

  • Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s), according to established SOP’s

  • Prepares tissue specimens with chemicals, slicing, and mounting on glass slides for microscopic examination and analysis

  • Embeds processed tissue in paraffin

  • Performs coverslipping of stained slides either manually or automated

  • Performs all special stain procedures according to established guidelines

  • Performs IHC staining on all automated platforms and works on developing new IHC assays with IHC Scientist

  • Reports problems concerning individual cases, tests, equipment, and supplies to the department supervisor or lead technologist to ensure timely resolution

  • Maintains laboratory in a clean, functional state, as well as cleaning, performing or scheduling equipment and instrument maintenance/calibration/certification, as required. Documents remedial actions such as repairs or repeated tests

  • Participates in quality control initiatives. Prepares lab for inspection from regulatory institutions

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology from an accredited college or university 

  • Complete six months to one-year internship or long term training program in a histopathology lab preferred.

  • Six (6) or more years experience (high complexity testing) or experience as a Histotechnologist preferred

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Must be able to work independently in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and maintain production and quality standards

  • Must be able to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and standards outlined in the Safety Manual

  • Good visual acuity including color perception required for certain departments

  • Possess strong communications and interpersonal skills
