Strategies for Building a Future-Ready Workforce

Last Friday, we had the pleasure of hosting a breakfast roundtable event in Taiwan, bringing together a group of HR professionals to discuss the pressing challenges and opportunities shaping the future of talent management.
Held at The Executive Centre in Taipei 101, the session provided a great opportunity for open conversations and an exchange of ideas about practical strategies for building a workforce ready for the future.
One of the key themes of the roundtable was attracting and retaining top talent. With 86% of job seekers likely to read company reviews before applying for a job, according to a Glassdoor survey, it’s clear that a positive online reputation is critical.
The roundtable participants explored how a company’s culture plays a significant role in fostering employee loyalty — one that promotes engagement, trust, and appreciation. We also recognised the importance of a holistic total rewards strategy for talent attraction and retention. Beyond competitive salaries, this approach ensures that employees feel valued and supported.
Another focal point was future-proofing the workforce. We noted the importance of developing a comprehensive ‘future of work’ strategy, which includes defining a clear mission, evaluating current skills, identifying gaps, and prioritising emerging trends such as AI.
With Taiwan facing its largest labour shortage in history – 1.078 million job openings versus 595,000 job seekers – participants delved into the challenges and opportunities of building a sustainable talent pipeline.
While Taiwan's global appeal has improved, the talent landscape still requires attention in areas like skilled labour, language proficiency, and international experience for senior managers.
During the tabletop discussions, participants shared insights into their challenges, such as recruiting talent without a strong brand, retaining employees amid intense competition, and integrating overseas hires with local teams.
This event provided an invaluable opportunity for HR professionals to collaborate, share ideas, and discuss strategies that will shape the future of talent management in Taiwan.
“The breakfast roundtable was truly enjoyable, filled with lively discussions and a great exchange of ideas,” said Karan Lin, DecodeHR’s Business Development Manager in Taiwan.
“Attendees were open and eager to share their experiences and insights, with some expressing a wish for the event to last longer. It was incredibly encouraging, and we’re excited to continue organising more events like this in the future.”
